On a BG 28 drilling rig, a CFA Kelly Extension Sleeve (or CFA Kelly Extension Rod) is a specialized extension bar used to increase the single-pass drilling depth when operating in Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) mode.Instead of adding individual auger sections manually, the extension sleeve telescopes down through the rotary drive (KDK), allowing the rig to drill significantly deeper in a single continuous stroke.

Outer Diameter (OD): 419 mm (engineered to match the Bauer- BG 28 rotary drive sleeve and standard BK28 Kelly drive profile).Standard Extension Length: 8.0 meters (optional configurations range from 6.0 m up to 10.5 m depending on mast extensions and SPEX / Single-Pass Extreme packages).
Bottom Connector: standard 254 mm or 368 mm CFA hex/square drive coupling.
Internal Concrete Conduit: Integrated 5-inch (125 mm) internal concrete flow pipe running down the center to allow high-pressure concrete/grout pumping through the top concrete swivel.
Depth Capability: Increases standard BG 28 CFA drilling depth from ~18 m up to 26 m - 33 m.
How the CFA Kelly Extension Works
Initial Drilling Phase: The main auger string is connected directly beneath the rotary drive (KDK 280) and driven into the ground to the maximum stroke of the mast.Depth Extension Phase: Once the KDK reaches the bottom of the mast, the Kelly extension sleeve unlocks and telescopes downward through the hollow bore of the rotary drive, pushing the auger string an additional 8 meters deeper without stopping to manually splice augers.
Concreting & Extraction: Concrete is pumped from the top swivel through the central conduit of the Kelly extension sleeve, down into the hollow stem of the auger, and out through the auger tip while the entire string is retracted under controlled rotation and pull-up speed.
